Flights and Airports To and From Cyprus

Well there are 2 Airports in Southern Cyprus – Paphos International Airport (PFO) and Larnaca International Airport (LCA).

The New Larnaca Airport opened on 7 November 2009 for Easyjet and Cyprus Airways and will be open for other airlines from 17 November 2009.   Now 3 times larger than the existing airport it will be able to take 7.5 million passengers a year.  There are now 16 air bridges and 5 baggage carousels.  And with 67 new check in desks and parking spaces for 2,450 vehicles, plenty of shops, cafes, a duty free shop and VIP/Business lounge it will make travelling a far better experience all round.

You have a choice of Airlines that Fly to Cyprus but by far the cheapest are Easyjet and Monarch but remember these are no frills airlines and you will be charged for extras like baggage and food, but they still often work out to be  the cheapest flights.

Monarch* fly from London Gatwick, London Luton, Manchester and Birmingham to Larnaca

Easyjet* fly from London Gatwick, London Luton, and Manchester to Paphos and London Gatwick to Larnaca. have recently announced they will be flying from East Midlands Airport to Paphos and you can start booking cheap flights now from their website for departures leaving in May 2010.

Other Airlines that also fly to Cyprus are Thompson, British Airways, Cyprus Airways and Thomas Cook.

If you are looking to stay in Protaras, Paralimini, Larnaca or Ayia Napa then Larnaca is the nearest airport for you to use. Protarus

If you are looking to stay in Paphos, Coral Bay, Pissouri, Limmasol  or Latchi then Paphos Airport is probably your best choice.

You can fly to either airports but you may find yourself with a couple of hours driving if you pick the one furthest away from your chosen resort.

The approximate distance from Larnaca to Protaras is 37.01 km or about 40 minutes drive.

The approximate distance from Paphos Airport to Paphos is 7.8 km or abojut 15 minutes drive.

You can hire a car direct from the airport but I would recommend that you hire one before you go so that you know that it will be waiting for you upon your arrival.  You will still have to wait at the desk but at least you will know what category of car is going to be there for you and it won’t just be pot luck.  For more information about car  hire go to our Car  Hire page.

If you do not want to hire a care you can take a taxi, or in some cases a bus (but depending on where you are staying these can be very limited on their timetables and frequency). An airport transfer may be a better option for you as it is possibly cheaper than a tax and more reliable than a scheduled bus service.  Here are some companies** that you may find useful:-       mini bus

Amazing Days on Cyprus

By Keith Barrett

Why is it that visitors flock to the island of Cyprus? This Mediterranean holiday destination seems to offer so much to tourists that it’s no wonder that many visitors even decide to make it their home.

When you look at Cyprus on a map, you may be surprised to see exactly where it’s located. Although a member of the European Union, the country has a geographical location that puts it considerably closer to many Middle Eastern countries than to western Europe.

This is important because it helps to explain both the climate and the history of this unique island. As the second largest land mass in the Mediterranean, it also offers more variety than you might imagine.

So many of the activities that take place on Cyprus have been made possible because of its climate. Visitors look forward to long, hot summer days and the island provides them with amazing regularity.

This means that lazy days can be spent relaxing by the pool, or on one of the many golden beaches. When combined with the surrounding sea, it also helps to create the perfect conditions for water sports, with diving being a particular favourite for many.

What do the locals make of the large visitor numbers? Tourism has undoubtedly provided a large boost to the Cypriot economy and this can clearly be seen in the coastal resorts.

Further inland, a more traditional way of life still exists. Much of the land is used for agriculture and some point out that there is a more relaxed feel as you move further inland, away from the bustle of the coast.

Don’t forget that the island boasts many historic sites too. These are ignored by too many visitors, but can help to add to any visit to Cyprus.

This golden island will certainly continue to attract people from far and wide. It offers so much that it’s easy to see why it retains such popularity.
